Indoor Air Quality Monitoring

Measuring Indoor Air Quality

15 September 2020

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) affects the health, comfort, and well-being of building occupants.

Poor indoor air quality has been linked to sick building syndrome, resulting in a loss of productivity and impaired learning in schools.

Indoor air quality can be affected by gases (including carbon monoxide, radon, volatile organic compounds), particulates, microbial contaminants (mould, bacteria), or any mass or energy stressor that can induce adverse health conditions.

Test & Measurement Australia stocks instruments for the measurement of some of these factors so that the Air Quality in an indoor environment can be evaluated.

Instruments for Measuring Indoor Air Quality

Lutron PM-1064SD

Lutron PM-1064SD air quality monitor

The PM-1064SD is a cost-effective air quality meter, with built-in SD card data logger.  It allows you to determine with certainty if there are any air quality issues to be addressed.

Readings are taken with a moderate level accuracy. The unit calculates a health index of 1-9 with and can give an alarm if a measurement indicates there are problems with air quality.

The data is saved in a format that can be loaded directly into a spreadsheet for analysis. Some basic Windows based software is also available, which allows you to review and display the data graph form.

Product specifications:

  • PM2.5: 0 to 250 micrograms per cubic meter at +/10 %
  • Humidity: 5 to 95% RH +/-3% RH to 70%
  • Temperature: 0 to 50C, +/-0.8 C
  • CO2: 0 to 10K ppm, +/-50ppm +3% of reading to 3000ppm
